Sheppard Assumes New Role Within Antarctic Logistics Section

Col. Paul Sheppard (USAF Ret.) has been appointed as Chief Program Officer within OPP's Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics Section (AIL).

Sheppard previously served as AIL’s systems manager for operations and logistics.

He came to NSF in 2011, after 28 years of military service, and was responsible for executing all logistics operations for the NSF-managed U.S. Antarctic Program.

During his Air Force career, Sheppard served as deputy commander of the Joint Task Force – Support Forces Antarctica, overseeing oversight and exercising operational control of all military organizations within Operation Deep Freeze, which provides the U.S. military support to the Antarctic Program. His previous military assignments include serving as the Department of Defense Liaison to the National Science Foundation and Air National Guard Advisor to Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Fla.

He graduated from the US Air Force Academy (Official) in 1983 and was a command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours.
