Message to the Antarctic Community Regarding COVID Measures

McMurdo Station experienced an increase in COVID-19 cases in October and November. The safety and health of the deployed and deploying population is our highest priority, which is why NSF is instituting a two-week pause in travel from Christchurch to McMurdo. This temporary pause will lower transmission rates and decrease the likelihood of positive individuals reaching other locations.

Consistent with the U.S. National Science Foundation's commitment to balance research and operational needs while containing the spread of Covid cases in Antarctica, NSF is implementing a pause on all travel to the continent for the next two weeks, effective immediately, while the situation is re-assessed.
